Nairobi, Kenya – deCOALonize Kenya is pleased to announce the launch of their new documentary, ‘The deCOALonize Journey’ on September 9th, 2022.

The deCOALonize movement has been at the forefront in the fight against the development of a coal industry in Kenya and the region. The tagline – ‘A greener future,’ encapsulates the efforts of the movement as they seek to drive the transition towards greener energy alternatives/ renewable energy.

Most notably, through their efforts and in collaboration with other organizations, they were able to effectively challenge the issuance of the Environmental Impact Assessment license issued by NEMA to Amu Power that was set to construct Kenya’s first coal plant in Lamu.

To this day, they continue to organize efforts towards a just energy transition in the country.

On the power of movements which is at the heart of deCOALonize

‘The power of movements is in its people,’ says Doreen Onyango, deCOALonize Coordinator, reflecting on the power of deCOALonize’s journey thus far. ‘The face of deCOALonize is its people. Without everyone that has stood with us throughout the years, we would not have been able to accomplish what we have.’

The movement is pleased to share its journey with its partners, the media and the general public as it continues to take a stand against the fossil fuel industry.

The launch shall take place on Friday, 9th September, 2022 at the Signature Auditorium – 11th Floor, Western Heights, Karuna Road, Westlands from 4pm – 7pm.
