LAPSSET Impact Assessment Map
This map attempts to show the impact of the LAPSSET project on the surroundings. The Lamu coal plant will be located within the LAPSSET area in Lamu County and includes the construction of a “mega port”, a railway, oil pipelines, airports, and resort cities, among many other developments.
This pilot project studied and mapped potential conflict and security risks stemming from the construction of the LAPSSET Corridor in Lamu County in Kenya through data collection and mapping of: -proposed LAPSSET infrastructure; -livelihoods of the local population; -potential environmental impact; -past an The methodology included a series of focus group discussions (FGDs) and participatory mapping workshops in Lamu County between January and July 2015 and mobile phone based public opinion survey carried out throughout the county.d present local conflicts; -community reliance on land and local natural resources; -community land rights and recent changes to land ownerships, This map depicts data collected from primary and secondary data sources.
The project was implemented by the Danish Demining Group, in association with Spatial Collective Limited and deCOALonize partner, Save Lamu. The project was carried out over a 12 month period, between October 2014 and October 2015 and was supported by the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office through the UK Conflict Pool.
