Statement on Joannah Stutchbury’s Murder

The deCOALonize Campaign joins environmentalists, conservationists, and civil society organizations in demanding that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the Kenya Forestry Service, and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry thoroughly investigate the murder of Joanna Stuchbury.

Joanna was shot at least twice on 15th July 2021 around 1635 hours (EAT) outside her home. She was known for her actions in protesting forests in Kiambu county. She never turned a blind eye when she saw any illegalities within the forest.

We condemn this senseless killing and call for justice for Joannah and all the other environmental and human rights activists who’ve sadly lost their lives while defending the integrity of our environment and natural heritage.
