Lamu woman rep to move to High Court to stop proposed Sh200 billion coal plant
Lamu woman representative Shakila Abdalla is planning to move to the High Court to stop the proposed Sh200 billion coal plant from being set up in the county.
She has said she will mobilise residents and activist groups to back her move, saying the project will hurt the health of residents. Abdalla said, however, she would only go to court if the National Environment Tribunal, which was in Lamu on a fact-finding mission on the project, fails to consider the health hazard.
She said the Friday incident, in which police confiscated posters and placards being used by activists during peaceful demonstrations in Lamu town was uncalled for.
Abdalla warned police against using unnecessary force to frustrate and harass activists opposed to the project. Read original article here
